Hello, I am Emma
Project lead. Parent. An expatriate based in Amsterdam, Netherlands.
A while back I moved here with my family. What began as a short-term assignment gradually became a new chapter of life overseas.
How It Started
Moving to Netherlands wasn't in the long-term plan. As with many expatriate relocations, it started as a job opportunity and soon grew into something far larger.
The initial months were intense — unfamiliar systems, new routines, fresh expectations. Day-to-day tasks seemed more challenging than expected.
The Adjustment Period
There was culture shock, uncertainty, and a lot of learning by doing. But gradually, routines started to take shape. We found places that suited us, connected with other families, and began building something that felt stable.
Why I Built SoftSproutMark
Much of the information online was either corporate relocation guidance or shallow tourism content. What was missing was a candid, everyday family viewpoint.
This site aims to bridge that gap — practical advice drawn from real life in Netherlands.
What This Site Is (And Isn't)
This site IS:
- Hands-on experience from living in Netherlands
- Centered on family life and everyday realties
- Updated whenever something genuinely changes
This site ISN'T:
- An official tourism authority resource
- A platform for sponsored reviews
- Just another generic travel blog
Looking Ahead
Our stay in Netherlands goes on, and the learning process continues. As long as the information remains useful, I will keep recording what we discover.
If you have questions about family life in Amsterdam or anywhere in Netherlands, please feel free to reach out.
Cheers,
Emma
